Chichibu The First released
October 2011
Japanese whisky specialist, Number One Drinks Company, is delighted to announce the release of Chichibu The First. Ichiro Akuto, the 21st generation of his family in the drinks industry, began the nine-month construction of Chichibu distillery in spring 2007. Distilling licences were granted and production began in February 2008. It is the first distillery built in Japan since Hakushu in the 1970s. Ichiro released a few single casks as Chichibu Newborn to allow whisky enthusiasts to chart the development of the spirit.
Chichibu The First is a limited edition of 7,400 bottles, 50% of which have been reserved for the domestic market with the remainder being shipped to key export markets shortly...

Last Stocks of Karuizawa acquired
August 2011
The entire remaining inventory of Mercian’s Karuizawa Distillery has been acquired on behalf of Number One Drinks by an Asian-based company. International importer and distributor of Japanese malt whisky, Number One Drinks Company, has handled worldwide sales of Karuizawa single casks since 2006.

Whiskies unaffected by radiation

The on-going situation at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear facility in north-eastern Japan has resulted in confusion regarding the status of Japanese products destined for export to overseas markets. Some countries have temporarily introduced partial bans on the importation of Japanese products, whilst others (including the EU) have brought in the need for testing and certification prior to export.
